Hong was trained as a structural biochemist and bioconjugation chemist. She has been working on PMO-related research and drug development since 1997. She worked for AVI Biopharma (renamed as Sarepta Therapeutics Inc.) for 13 years with her focus on improving cellular delivery of PMOs, and invented the PPMO technology there.

Since 2010, she has been enjoying the freedom at OSU to pursue PMO research and drug development in diverse fields, and has had the honor to work with many outstanding collaborators.
